“I find the Orchestra a wonderful group of extremely sensitive musicians and as it happens its a sincere joy to see an ensemble in the native country come back to the level of music making they deserve” V. Sokolov
During the 20 years of its history the Ukrainian Chamber Orchestra originally named “Kiev Soloists” has been a strong ambassador of Ukrainian culture and talent.
Since its establishment by an eminent Soviet violinist Bohodar Kotorovych (1941-2009) in 1996 the orchestra consisted of most talented Ukrainian string players.
Kotorovych, a very fine violin pedagogue aside from solo career activities has established a strong violin teaching tradition in Kiev which has resulted in that much of his best students were at the core of this ensemble.
Together they have toured all over the world and performed recorded and premiered among others significant works of Ukrainian composers.
Since passing of their artistic leader 2009 the Ukrainian Chamber Orchestra has been frequently directed by fine guest conductors as well as various invited soloists.
Valeriy Sokolov has been having a fruitful musical activity in native Ukraine for the past decade and it comes logically that a wish to continue a wonderful tradition of Ukrainian Chamber Orchestra as well as take part in the music scene in Ukraine brought them together.
From 2017 Valeriy is invited to be a guest leader and an artistic advisor of the Orchestra.
Next year the Orchestra welcomes renowned musicians Gerard Causse (viola), Jeremy Menuhin (piano), Alexandar Madžar (piano), Gary Hoffmann (cello), Nikita Borisoglebsky (violin), David Geringas (cello) for a series of concerts at the main concert Hall in Kiev at the National Philarmonic Society.
The following year this newly formed collaboration between Sokolov and the Ukrainian Chamber Orchestra will debut at the Auditorio G.Verdi in Milan as part of Societa de Concerti Series as well as in Munich at the Gasteig.
